Obituary

Services for Virginia Worthington, 98, of Santa Maria and formerly of Lompoc, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Lompoc. Pastor Kathleen Puntar will be officiating.
Mrs. Worthington was born on October 30, 1918 in Cameron, TX. Her dad moved the family to Buckeye, AZ to grow cotton on the desert floor when irrigation became common. She graduated from Buckeye High School in 1936. Shortly thereafter, she met a young man from OK whose uncle owned a cotton gin in Buckeye. On June 6, 1940, she married Clyde Worthington and the two began a 60-year love affair which lasted until he passed away in March 2001. Virginia completed her education at the University of Central Oklahoma and taught at Westside Elementary School in Midwest City, Ok for 22 years. She and Clyde raised their family in Midwest City and after his retirement, they moved to Bull Shoals, AR where he played golf and she enjoyed painting, cooking and her family. In 2000 they moved to Lompoc to be nearer their daughter. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Lompoc Alpha Club. In 2012 Virginia moved to Merrill Gardens in Santa Maria.
Mrs. Worthington is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lemon and husband, David of Lompoc and by her son, Dr. Brant Worthington and wife Carole of Norman, OK. She leaves behind five grandchildren and their spouses: Kara Dierkens and George of Lompoc, Kristi Blumstein and Ron of San Jose, CA, Sharra McKesson and Barry of Mosley, VA, Kim Farmer and Scott of Disputanta, VA, and Dr. Kyle Lemon and Dr. Susan of Santa Ynez, CA., 12 great-grandchildren and her sister, Myra Byrd Benedict of Houston, TX. She was preceded in Death by her parents, one brother, one great-grandchild and her husband.
Mrs. Worthington will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, OK at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Foundation of the First United Methodist Church, 925 North F Street, Lompoc, CA 93436.
