Obituary

Services for Walter M. Goodnow, 87, of Santa Maria and formerly of Lompoc, will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Walter was born July 24, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter and Jessie Berry Goodnow. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High in Long Beach, Calif. and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. In 1948, Walter moved to Lompoc and worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base as an electrical engineer with ITT Systems where he retired after 24 years. He also installed life alert systems for seniors. Walter belonged to the Lompoc Masonic Lodge # 262 F.& A.M., where he was a 32nd degree Freemason, the Lompoc Grange, and the Lompoc Elks Lodge 2274. Walter's favorite pastimes included model trains and gardening.

He died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Chambard of Sunnyvale, Calif.; brother, Dr. Robert Goodnow of Lacey, Wash.; grandchildren, Shannon Young, Laura Chambard, and Marianna Chambard; and great grandchildren, Connor Young and Coltyn Young. He was preceded in death by his companion of many years, B.J. Betts.
