Services for Wendell Howard Minyard. 82, of Lompoc, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Church of Christ, 138 N. O St. in Lompoc. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Wendell was born March 3, 1933 in Rector, Arkansas to Albert and Pauline Minyard. The family moved to Redlands California in the mid 1940s. Wendell graduated from Redlands High School, and went to work in Civil Service for the U.S. Air Force. He married the love of his life, Irma Azlin, in 1953. They moved their family to Lompoc in 1973 so he could work at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Wendell spent 37 years working in government service. After his retirement, he worked for several years for the ITT Corp.
A man of deep faith, Wendell was an active member of the Church of Christ for 67 years, where he made lifelong friends.
On August 24, 2015, Wendell was reunited with his wife of 54 years, Irma, who died in 2007. He was also preceded in death by both parents, Albert and Pauline, and his brother, A.J. He leaves behind his son, Jeff Minyard (and wife SueMarie) of Lompoc; daughter Wendi Rupp of Lompoc; his sister, Mary Hamilton (and husband Jerry) of Willows, California; his brother David Minyard of Canyon Lake, California; grandchildren Brandon Pollock, Kacey Monreal (and husband Jorge), Kaitlin Minyard, and Clifford Jones; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Brandon and Alana and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his fourth great-grandchild, Tobias Monreal.
He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a treasured friend. Among Wendell's greatest joys were spending time with his family. His life was filled with camping and fishing trips with friends and family. He spent hours in his woodshop, making everything from crafts to rocking horses for each of his grandchildren. He and his wife loved taking their motor home on lengthy journeys around the country.
He loved spending time building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He was an avid participant in custom car shows, displaying his treasured red 1966 Ford Mustang.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday August 30, 2015 at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 N. A St., Lompoc.
