Obituary

Willard "Bill" Hughen, Sr. of Lompoc passed away at home in Lompoc, CA on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the age of 75.

Bill was born August 3, 1937 in Everett, Massachusetts. Bill grew up in New England and enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. One of his first assignments was to Spangdahlen Germany where he met his future wife Elfriede and together they raised 5 children.

After 22 years of Air Force service, including an assignment at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Bill retired and moved back to Lompoc where he joined Martin Marietta Corporation. Bill worked for MMC at Vandenberg, Denver, CO and Washington D.C. In 1996, Bill retired again and moved back to Lompoc. For the last 14 years Bill worked part time as a tax professional at Walker, Wilson & Hughen Accountancy Corporation in Lompoc.

Bill spent his free time traveling with his bride Elfriede and golfing. Bill was very active in the Protestant Ministry on Vandenberg Air Force Base including preaching, ushering, singing in the choir, and leading Sunday school and bible study classes. Bill's love for his Savior Jesus Christ was evident not only in his words but in his actions.

Bill is survived by his loving bride Elfriede; son Harald (grandchildren Sadie and Sara; and great grandchildren Brianna and Amber); daughter Laura and her husband Dan (grandchildren Andy, Marianne, Becky and Steven); son Bill Jr and his wife Mary Lou (grandchildren Eric, Elizabeth and her husband Andy with great grandchildren Emily, Haley and Zachary); son Donald and his wife Laura (grandchild Nathanael); daughter Evelyn and her husband Mark (grandchildren Ellen, Amie and Caroline) and his sister Evelyn Blackden of New Hampshire.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 9th at 10 AM at Chapel 1 on Vandenberg Air Force Base. Reception will immediately follow in the chapel annex.
