William N. Madson of Lompoc died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the age of 85.
William was born March 13, 1926, in Racine, Wisconsin to Nels and Alice Madson. He left high school to join the merchant marines and later the United States Army. He served in Germany during World War II and was discharged in 1952 as a sergeant in the active reserves. Formerly of Valencia he has been a resident of Lompoc since 1991.
William worked in the heating, air conditioning and sheet metal industry for many years before joining the Los Angeles Unified School District. He retired in 1989 after 22 years of service as an area facilities director.
William enjoyed hunting and fishing and was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lompoc, the Reseda Masonic Lodge, the VFW, American Legion Post 211 and the Refrigeration Service Engineer Society. In his later years he enjoyed computing.
William is survived by his wife of 63 years Norrine Madson, his son William A Madson of Lompoc, his brother Robin Madson of Phoenix, Arizona, his two grandchildren Charles Madson and Elizabeth Caudle, and his five great grandchildren Carter, Cassie, Jacob, Samantha and Joey. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kristine Kalstrom in 2002, and his brothers James and Howard.
Pastor Gilbert Stone will lead the funeral service on Friday, March 25, 2011, at 1 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The burial will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
