William was born June 18, 1926 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Frank and Margaret
Murphy. He died Friday, February 15, 2013. His early years were spent in Springfield,
Massachusetts. When he was 12 years old a movie company came to Springfield trying to find a boy to star in the "Yearling". He had a screen test and got the part. Unfortunately the studio
Postponed the making of the movie, but the acting bug had bitten William and in his early teens he made his way to Hollywood.
He appeared in several movies including "One Sunday Afternoon", "Janie", and "I Wonder Who's
Kissing Her Now", That Hagen Girl" with Ronald Reagan and Shirley Temple. He made "Salty
O'Rourke" with Alan Ladd and then was drafted into the Army.
He served in the Army until 1948, when he returned to Hollywood. Movie parts were hard to come by so in 1950, he enlisted in the Air Force.
He was stationed in England in 1952 where he met the love of his life Angela Bramall. He returned stateside February 1954. Angela joined him in December 1954 and they were married in Lutherville, Maryland. For the next 20 years they were stationed all over England and the United States, having a son and three daughters along the way.
He retired in 1968 after 23 ½ years in the military. His parents, his brother, Frank and his sister, Dorothy, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his son Kenneth, daughters Karen Yocum, Kathi Dickerson and Kelly Murphy of Lompoc. Grandchildren Billy and Angela of Utah; Chrisopher Dickerson, Corrissa and Tom Verroco of Lompoc. Great grandchildren Harley, Kyla, Tommy and Serenity of Utah; Riley and Dylan Verroco of Lompoc. Brother Bob and sister Marie and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
Burial will be private at a later date.
