Obituary

William "Will" H. Schuyler passed away on May 4th, 2024, at the age of 84. Born to Margie and Don Schuyler in Bakersfield, California, Will relocated to Lompoc at one year old, where he remained a proud resident and unofficial historian until his passing.

He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1957. He opened Schuyler Lawnmower in 1962, happily serving Lompoc and the central coast for nearly 60 years.

Outside of business hours, he was involved in many local organizations. He served three terms as Lompoc City Councilman, contributing to significant community projects such as the establishment of the Lompoc Aquatic Center and the Lompoc Valley Medical Center. His dedication to the community extended to his involvement with the Boy Scouts as well as a 30-year tenure in Search and Rescue. He joined the Odd Fellows Lodge at 18 years old as a fourth-generation member, eventually holding esteemed positions such as Department Commander of the State of California Patriarchal Militant and serving as the Noble Grand of The Rebecca's at the time of his passing. He was also serving as Treasurer of The Grange.

A big racing enthusiast, Will believed in the sport's ability to bring people together. He co-founded and was once president of the Lompoc Valley Motorsports Park Project. His weekends were often spent four-wheeling in his Jeep or traversing the state in his motorhome to watch drag races.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Margie Schuyler, as well as his brother, George Schuyler. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruthie Schuyler, and their three sons: David Schuyler and wife Jeanne, Jimmy Schuyler and wife Cindy, Donnie Schuyler and wife Lisa. He is also survived by his brother Doug Schuyler, his nephew Gary Schuyler as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces/nephews, and friends.

Will was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His legacy is that of a man who believed in the power of showing up for causes, for community, and most importantly for your loved ones. His unwavering commitment to his beliefs and the people he held dear leaves an enduring mark on those who knew him and serves as an inspiration to all of us.

A funeral service will be held at Lompoc Cemetery on Saturday, May 18th, at 10 AM. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Lompoc Grange Hall.
