Obituary

Services for William A. Senta, 78, of Lompoc, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 135 South E St. in Lompoc.

Bill was born February 9, 1929, in Ely, Minnesota, to Louis and Hannah Senta. He joined the Air Force in 1948 and met his wife, Janet, while both were stationed at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Washington. Following assignments to Korea, Florida, and Nebraska, he came to Vandenberg AFB in 1966. After retiring from the Air Force in 1968, Bill spent 20 years working as a counselor for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. After two retirements, he finally finished his working career at Ratheon in Santa Barbara. He proudly shared his Slovenian heritage with his twin brother Robert, of Duluth, MN (who was by his side at his final hour), and enjoyed potica, polka music, and fond memories of Ely, MN. Baseball games, crossword puzzles, family gatherings, and morning coffees with his American Legion colleagues brought enjoyment in his retirement years. Above all, Bill had one love – his wife Janet, married 54 years; one hobby - his family; and one God. He had attended Bethany Lutheran Church since 1966.

With family by his side, Bill reached the gates of Heaven on January 17, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.

The family he leaves includes his wife, Janet Senta of Lompoc; son, William (Bill) Senta Jr. and wife, Debra of Kent, Washington; daughters, SueMarie Minyard and husband Jeff; Joanne Elizabeth O'Dwyer and husband David; Rebecca (Becky) Janet Deegan and husband Dale, all of Lompoc; granddaughters, Ashley Deegan and Kaitlin Minyard; grandsons, David O'Dwyer Jr., Grant O'Dwyer, Bradley Deegan, and C.J. Jones, all of Lompoc; Dylan Senta of Kent, WA, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley of Babbit, MN, and Louie of St. Cloud, MN; sister, Dorothy (Kovall) of Ely, MN, and granddaughter, Karen Ann Senta of Carlsbad, NM.

Bill was the pillar of strength and the guiding light for his family. His wisdom taught us that if we all loved each other and our families as much as he loved us, the world would be a much better place. He will always be loved and greatly missed.
