William Murchison Shaner "Bill" "Billy" "Bubby"
December 21, 1948 – January 19, 2024
William "Bill" Shaner, 75, said he had a good life. Because of his father's work, his family moved often. By the time he was ten he had lived in three states and two foreign countries. He had already traveled throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. He would then go on to live in several more states and ended up in California—a member of the first graduating class of 1967 at the new Cabrillo High School.
Because he chose to be a professional long-haul truck driver for United Van Lines for more than 40 years, he was indeed well-traveled. He loved engines—car engines, truck engines—and always had a car or engine he was rebuilding. He loved going to the races. During his last days in hospice his family played racing videos on YouTube so he could hear his favorite sounds of the engines. Many of his friends will remember cruising H & Ocean with him in his '67 Camaro back in the day. That was his comfort zone. Even though he slowed down in his last few years, he's racing through the universe again. Next time you hear a loud engine roaring by or hear the horn of a big rig, think of him.
He is survived by family, friends and caretakers who remember him with love.
A celebration of life will be held in the future.
