Obituary

William Perry Smith Jr. 16 September 1932 - 29 August 2018

William (Bill) Perry Smith Jr. passed away at his home in Vandenberg Village on Wednesday August 29th at the age of 85. Those who knew Bill will remember him for always being warm and welcoming. Bill was a very kind, giving, and selfless man, and will be greatly missed.

Bill was born in Alabama where he spent most of his childhood before moving to California where he then graduated from Oakland High School and San Jose State University. After serving a few years in the U.S. Army, he earned his master's degree and settled down with his wife Elizabeth in Lompoc where he taught elementary school for the Lompoc Unified School District. After retirement, he worked as a security guard at Vandenberg AFB for several years. In retirement, Bill enjoyed his time tending his garden, adventuring on road trips, and never missing a bargain at local garage sales or markets, and being Grampa.

Bill is survived by his son, Patrick and daughter, Donna; grandchildren: Scott Measley, Jacob, Matthew, and Theodore Smith; Michael, Nicholas, Brennen, Cameron, and Marshall Stevens, Joseph Chavarria, and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Elizabeth A. Smith, his daughter Carol, and his parents Mattie Marx and William Perry Smith Sr.

Graveside services will take place 3pm Friday, September 14th at Lompoc Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food bank.

Special thanks to Dr. Anne Little, Shena Grizzanti, Cruz Smith, Bella Smith, staff at Assisted Hospice Care, and all his family and friends!
