Obituary

William Kenneth Walker (Kenny) was born on February 17, 1930 in Caddo County, Oklahoma to Raymond K. and Ada M. Walker and died at home on June 6, 2016. Kenny's mom and dad were farmers that worked a small plot of land on the banks of the Canadian River during the Great Depression. Those were difficult times and at 13 years of age, after completing the 8th grade, Kenny was forced to drop out of school to live with and work the farm for his great aunt Blanch following the death of her husband, Dixon McCleod who staked the land during the Great Land Rush in Oklahoma.

At the age of 19 years (1949) Kenny married Betty June Young of Hinton, OK… his devoted wife of 67 years. With little work available to them in Oklahoma, they relocated to the Lompoc Valley in September of 1950 so that Kenny could take a job at the expanding Celite Plant (Johns-Manville Corp) where he worked for the next 38 years. He retired from Johns-Manville in December of 1988 having achieved the position of General Maintenance Supervisor for the Lompoc Plant.

Following retirement, and after raising 3 children (twins: Dixie K Stevens & Dixon R Walker, and their younger son Kenny R Walker) Ken and Betty traveled extensively in their motor home and were very active with their church. In later life they devoted nearly all of their time to their 7 grand children and 9 great-grand children.

Kenny was an expert horseman in his younger years. He raced as a Jockey, competed in numerous rodeos barrel racing and roping, and raised & trained numerous horses (including a prize winning Cutting Horse). A devoted father, you would always find him with his children by his side.

Kenny is survived by his wife Betty of Lompoc and their children; Dixie Stevens of Lompoc, Dixon Walker of Canyon Lake, TX and Kenny Walker of Ephrata, WA. Their Grand Children are: Nathan Walker, Darren Stevens, Jennie Walker, Brian Stevens, Crystal Van Die, Amanda Peterson, and Marty Walker. Their Great-Grand Children are: Cody Stevens, Cody Miller, Kailey Stevens, Andrew Van Die, Geneva Walker, Charlotte Van Die, Deborah Walker, Makayla Van Die and Vienna Walker.

Kenny was preceded in death by his mom & dad (Raymond and Ada of Lompoc) and his brother, Argonne Walker of Canyon Country, CA.

The Funeral will be held on Monday June 13, 2016 at 10am at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel (123 North "A" Street in Lompoc, CA).

Cards and letters may be sent to: 1805 Berkeley Drive, Lompoc, CA 93436.
